Patent Analyst (Bio)

Description
The Intellectual Property Group is seeking a Patent Analyst to perform reference and literature searches for crop genetics to ensure their critical needs for data and information are met. Navigates DuPont internal resources to fulfill needs.
Responsibilities include,
· Searching - Conducts intellectual property, literature and/or current awareness searches for business and technical information using appropriate information sources, such as on-line databases, Internet and hardcopy published information. Types of searches include, but not limited to gene sequence, citation, technology status, or company and industry profiles, with a significant emphasis on patent searching. Seeks assistance from technical analysts or subject-matter experts in setting up strategies for more complicated searches.
· Technology Mapping / Analysis - Analyze the search results and generate reports.
· Technology Updates - Issue regular technology updates.
· Knowledge of Resources - Has essential working knowledge of general and specialized information resources.
· Customer Communication - Communicates with customers orally and in writing in order to monitor level and effectiveness of service.
· Networking - Maintains and develops an awareness of DuPont business directions and learns the needs of individual customers so they can be kept informed of new developments.
· Safety - Complies with all DuPont safety standards.
Qualifications
*MS or PhD or equivalent degree in a scientific discipline, preferably the plant sciences: genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry/physiology, etc. Research experience will be added advantage.
* Formal course work in bioinformatics desirable.
* Have searching experience, preferably in sequence searching using paid and / or free databases.
Understanding of Basic Intellectual Property Principles and the Role and Structure of Patents
* Understanding of the principles of patent prosecution.
* Ability to use IP search tools and databases; good IT skills and proficiency in the use of on-line database hosts and other IP and scientific information resources.
* Excellent query definition skills; an ability to extract from customers all relevant detail to successfully construct high-quality, comprehensive, targeted search queries.
* Ability to provide targeted summaries in response to patent search and competitive intelligence inquiries from patent attorneys, scientists and business clients.
* Strong understanding of the confidential nature of patent support.

Further Details Research Scientist / Technical Writing and Regulatory Studies
Description
The successful candidate will join the regulatory science group as a research scientist to lead the technical writing capabilities and manage third party biosafety studies to support the regulatory submission of biotechnology derived crops.
1. Works in conjunction with regulatory science team to establish project goals consistent with business unit goals.
2. The successful candidate will lead writing regulatory submissions including but not limited to regulatory applications, field trial reports, report generations from studies conducted both in house as well as outsourced biosafety studies.
3. The successful candidate will also manage all outsourced biosafety studies.
4. Works in collaboration with other regulatory science capabilities and collaborators to ensure all information is collected for successful report/application generation
5. Remains current on new technology, innovative, and encourage team members to bring information into research activities.
6. Communicates with research leadership and collaborators on progress of the project
7. Monitors safe working practice.
Other Duties
1. Ensure support resources are sufficient to met research project goals and develop plans for alternative solutions.
2. May serve on teams appropriate to cross project research initiatives.
Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Genetics/Biotechnology or any other related field with at least 1 year industry experience in technical writing.
2. Sound knowledge of regulatory procedure of approval of biotech crops.
3. Good knowledge of the regulatory studies required for the approval of biotech crops.
4. Self-motivated, team and goal oriented, take-charge attitude, excellent written and oral communication skills, computer and organizational skills, flexible and not frustrated by changing priorities.
