SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME @ NIT, ROURKELA IN ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE
NIT, Rourkela has launched a Summer Internship Programme with an objective to encourage ambitious bright B.Tech. as well as B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of different Institutes in India other than NIT, Rourkela to pursue an innovative research and development project under the guidance of NIT faculties. The summer fellow will register at NIT, Rourkela for whom there will be no institute registration fees. The Institute is pleased to provide 50 nos. of Summer Fellowships as follows.
The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) A gross fellowship of Rs.3500/-, for a period of two months to meet travel and other expenses. The fellowship will be provided to those, who stay in NITR hostels.
(b) Free Accommodation in the NIT Halls of Residences.
(c) Laboratory and Computing Facilities.
The fellowship is available in the following departments.

Any B.Tech., B.Sc or M.Sc. student with a good academic record who has completed 2 or 3 years of study toward engineering or science degree may apply for this fellowship.

MODULAR COURSE IN BIOINFORMATICS ADMISSION NOTICE

Applications on prescribed form are invited for admission to the Modular III of Modular Courses in Bioinformatics under Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics supported by the Ministry of Information Technology (Govt. of India). The course has high practical/lab component and is designed to cater to the needs of industry and educational institutions.

Eligibility : B.Sc. (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Agri/Biology or Equivalent), BTech, MBBS, BPharm, BDS, BVSc or Equivalent (at least 50% marks or equivalent grade).
Duration : Three months
Total Intake: 30 seats (reservation as per University Rules)
On successful completion of each module a Certificate will be awarded. Candidates who successfully complete all the four modules under this programme will be awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics.
Fees : Rs. 5000/- per module; Five seats in each module are reserved for Sponsored/candidates from industry with a fee of Rs.10,000/- per module.

SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME AT IIT DELHI


IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) for Top ten of the classes to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.
About the Fellowship
Duration The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits. Support The fellowship will cover the following: 
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree, is amongst top ten positions in her/his respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students who will be completing this requirement by May 2010 are also eligible. 
How to apply 
Application The application form should be downloaded from IIT Delhi website. The applicant must contact IIT Delhi faculty in whose area she/he wishes to execute research and get faculty member’s concurrence in writing on the form. She/he should submit the following:
(a) Application form duly recommended by IITD faculty member
(b) Resume
(c) One consolidated grade card; and rank in class.
(d) No Objection Certificate from the parent institution stating the starting and ending dates for carrying out full time research work at IIT Delhi under the fellowship programme.
(e) One photograph (Passport size), pasted on the application form.
(f) One reference letter in a sealed envelope.

Max F. Perutz PhD Program 2010
The Max F. Perutz Laboratories offer students from all over the world the opportunity to participate in the Max F. Perutz PhD Program.
The Max F. Perutz Labs are a joint-venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna. Located at the Vienna Biocenter Campus, the Max F. Perutz Labs enable students to participate in high quality research in an international academic environment as well as establishing connections with nearby companies.
The MFPL PhD Program provides interdisciplinary training and research opportunities in a highly attractive and inspiring research environment for outstanding University Graduates who wish to work towards a PhD in the fields of Molecular Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Biophysics, Neurobiology and Bioinformatics.
PhD students have a primary affiliation with one of the participating research groups, and are enrolled as graduate students at the University of Vienna or the Medical University of Vienna. The language of the PhD Program is English. The duration of a thesis is 3 to 4 years.
All MFPL PhD students are employed with a full-time contract and a salary corresponding to the guidelines of the Austrian Research Funds (FWF). Students are recruited by a structured selection and interview process.
Admission
The program is open to students who hold a Master’s degree in the biosciences, chemistry, medicine, or related fields, or expect to finish their master study in 2010. Candidates above 30 years will not be considered.
Admission to the MFPL Graduate School is competitive, and solely carried out through a centralized selection procedure. Please note that applications can only be accepted via the online application system within the announced deadline. Late or incomplete applications are not accepted. Your participation during the interview procedure in Vienna is essential if you wish to be considered for admission to the program.

Evaluation of applications
The first evaluation takes into account the applicants’ national education system, and is carried out by a committee of MFPL group leaders. Applications of candidates which meet the requirements are recommended for further assessment by the Selection Committee, which jointly shortlists the candidates to be invited for a 3 days’ period of interviews in Vienna. Invitations are sent 5-6 weeks in advance.
The interview in Vienna
Each candidate will first be interviewed by a Selection Committee consisting of 3 faculty members. This committee evaluates the overall qualifications of the candidate. The candidates are expected to give a 15-minute presentation of their Master thesis and a 15-minute presentation/critical analysis of one of the papers on the list that will be sent together with the invitation. Furthermore, questions will be asked about the candidates’ background and research interests.
Based upon this first assessment, the top-ranked candidates are invited to proceed to individual interviews with with the group leaders of their choice.
Offers of admission
After the individual interviews, the candidates name their preferred research group. Admission is granted if the group leader, on his or her part, is willing to offer the position to the candidate.
The starting date will be agreed with the group leader. Selected candidates are expected to accept the offered position in writing within 2 weeks and start within 6 months after the selection. PhD students are initially accepted for three years, with the possibility of an extension for the fourth year.
